Bluey's story- CARPAL HYPEREXTENSION

Cause of Injury

Bluey unfortunately jumped off of a 16 foot balcony and landed with the brunt of the force on his right front paw. This caused a severe hyperextension injury to the right carpus (wrist).

Treatment

He started off in a cast, then was referred by his veterinarian for a custom solid carpal brace. After 2 months of being completely immobilized, he was transitioned to a custom articulated carpal brace which allowed him to be much more functional while still preventing carpal hyperextension (The wrist collapsing backward). He wore the jointed brace for 3 months and weaned off for 1 month.

The Outcome

After 6 months of treatment, Bluey has not needed to wear the carpal brace and is living a healthy and active life!

LUCY's story- CARPAL HYPEREXTENSION

Cause of Injury

Lucy was rescued after having crushing injury to her right paw resulting in multiple metacarpal fractures and collapse at the MCPs. She had a non-healing open wound on the top and had to be limit her walking due to her injury.

Treatment

We fabricated her a custom jointed carpal brace that allows full motion and prevent collapse of the paw as recommended by her veterinarian. The purpose of this brace was to allow Lucy to be protected while walking  to allow the paw to heal and to be used for daily activity for long term use due to the severity of the injury.

The Outcome

Lucy is living a great life and hangs out on the ranch every day, enjoy running, playing, and enjoying life to her fullest! (See video of Lucy running at the ranch on front page!)

Gracie's story- CARPAL HYPEREXTENSION

Cause of Injury

Gracie unfortunately was diagnosed with IMPA which resulted in complete carpal hyperextension (wrist collapse backwards) on both front legs.

Treatment

We fabricated custom jointed carpal braces that allow full motion and prevent carpal collapse as recommended by her veterinarian. The purpose of these braces was to prevent carpal hyperextension while allowing her sensation at her paws. We wanted her to be functional and continue living an active life with her family.

The Outcome

Gracie has been able walk with better joint alignment and stability and can now continue to enjoy more park and outdoor time with her family!
